Cheshire West and Chester Council needed to modernise its office spaces. The goal was to support a more agile and collaborative workforce.
A New Era of Workplace Transformation
With nearly 2,000 employees spread across multiple sites, the Council aimed to consolidate its assets. This would improve efficiency and create better work environments.
ADT Workplace was chosen as the workplace consultant, design, and delivery partner. Our role was to guide the Council through this transformation. The focus was on developing workspaces that matched changing employee needs and future workplace trends.
The Approach
This involved interviews with 50 senior managers and surveys with all employees. As a result, the Council consolidated nine buildings into three agile hubs:
- Ellesmere Port – 28,847 sqft
- Chester – 7,050 sqft
- Winsford – 19,030 sqft
The entire fit-out was completed in 27 weeks. Careful planning ensured minimal disruption to operations.
The Solution
Each agile workplace was designed to support hybrid working, teamwork, and employee wellbeing. The spaces were carefully planned to suit the Council’s diverse teams.
Key features included:
- Flexible Workspaces: Open-plan offices, breakout zones, and private meeting areas.
- Technology-Enabled Environments: Digital solutions to enhance collaboration and connectivity.
- Sustainability-Focused Design: Eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient lighting.
- Employee Wellbeing Enhancements: Ergonomic furniture, better acoustics, and natural lighting.
A key challenge arose at Winsford, where work continued during the refurbishment. ADT Workplace worked closely with the Council to reduce disruption. Corridors were kept clear, and noisy work was scheduled outside office hours.
