SLALOM’S DYNAMIC MANCHESTER OFFICE FIT-OUT

Project Overview

Slalom, a global consulting and technology firm, required a new office space in Manchester, UK to accommodate their growing team. Covering 8,600 sq.ft and delivered over 12 weeks, ADT Workplace transformed two floors of Bruntwood’s Bloc building into a dynamic, future-ready workspace. The space now supports collaboration, innovation, and well-being, perfectly aligned with Slalom’s evolving needs.

The Brief

Following significant growth, Slalom’s Manchester team had outgrown their previous office. Therefore, they needed a larger, more flexible space that would reflect their global brand standards, while embracing Manchester’s unique culture. In particular, the design had to support a variety of working styles, thus encouraging collaboration and agile working. Moreover, employee well-being was a key priority, ensuring that the new office would inspire creativity and innovation. Additionally, the office needed to reinforce their presence within Manchester’s vibrant business community.

Slalom’s leadership emphasized the importance of aligning the new office design with their other global locations. However, they also wanted the office to incorporate local elements, celebrating the distinctive character of Manchester. By doing this, they hoped to create a space that not only supports internal collaboration but also strengthens their ties to the local business scene.

Our Approach

ADT Workplace developed a comprehensive strategy to meet Slalom’s needs. First, we worked closely with the UK-based team as well as their U.S.-based “Slalom Spaces” facilities group. This collaboration ensured that the design captured both the global brand identity and local flair.
Furthermore, our team provided a full range of services, including workplace consultancy, design, mechanical and electrical (M&E) design, and project management. As a result, we were able to create a space that was both functional and inspiring.

Collaborative Design:

The 15th floor was primarily designed as a collaborative hub. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a striking reception area, which opens up into a multifunctional space. This space includes an auditorium, equipped with the latest AV technology, which allows Slalom to host company events and presentations. The panoramic views of Manchester further enhance the space. Moreover, unique elements such as swings and casual seating make the environment more inviting and encourage informal discussions. The meeting rooms on this floor are highly adaptable, and they can be reconfigured using moveable partitions. Consequently, these spaces offer flexibility, encouraging dynamic interactions among Slalom’s employees and partners. This makes it easier for teams to come together and create innovative solutions.

Functional Workspace:

In contrast, the 13th floor was designed to support focused work. The open-plan office features sit/stand desks, which promote employee health and productivity. Additionally, individual booths and smaller meeting rooms are available for those requiring more privacy.

Furthermore, social spaces, such as a games room and a fully equipped kitchen, provide opportunities for employees to relax and recharge throughout the day. Inclusivity was also a key consideration, with a dedicated prayer and well-being room included in the design.

Unique Design Features

ADT Workplace ensured that Slalom’s Manchester office not only met the company’s global standards but also celebrated its local environment. For instance, Slalom’s signature blue mesh ceiling runs centrally across both floors. In addition, local touches, such as the iconic Manchester bee, are present throughout the office. Meeting rooms were named after famous Manchester music acts, including Oasis and Happy Mondays. These features create a blend of global professionalism and local charm, making the office a true reflection of the city it inhabits.

The Result

The completed office has exceeded expectations, and the design has allowed the team to collaborate more effectively. Moreover, the flexible workspaces support a variety of working styles, while the social areas and well-being features have made the office a destination that employees are excited to visit every day. Additionally, Slalom’s Manchester office has quickly become a focal point within the local tech community, regularly hosting meet-ups.

Testimonial

“We’re delighted with our new office space. It’s enabled the team to connect in a way that wasn’t previously possible. Excitingly, it’s becoming a focal point for tech meet-ups too, helping to cement our position at the heart of the Manchester tech scene, and the community at large. We’re grateful to the team at ADT Workplace for making our dream a reality. They led us through the whole process, bringing creativity, expertise and drive to the project. They should be proud of what they’ve achieved!”
